Carp Kites
In our Carp Kite unit, students will travel to Japan to study the culture. One national holiday is Children's Day, which is celebrated, in part, by the flying of these kites from a bamboo stick in the ground. Second graders will display their cutting and gluing skills, as well as an understanding of pattern. The carp are symbolic of strength and perserverence- characteristics we want for all our kids!
Landscape
Our second graders will learn about landscapes, horizon lines, and how to show a sense of space, or near and far. Each child will create a scene with one item both "near" and repeated again "far", then colored using emotional colors. Students can demonstrate both drawing and coloring control.
